James W Smith The will of Janet Smith (nee Erskine) ,his wife, shows him to be the brother of Samuel, George, John and William smith. Therefore this proves that he is the first born of John Smith and Jane Workman. He is also listed as being born in Ontario according to the 1871 Census. the 1901 Census has his father John emigrating in 1842 so his birth date may be slightly off.

John Smith (M)
John Smith This is pure speculation that he is the father of Andrew Smith - he appears in the Assessment Rolls from 1843 to 1848 as a farmer of 100 acres. All of this is photocopied and in my archive
The source for this is the 1822-50 Census and Assessment for Prescot and Russell Districts - location MG9, D9 on the Public Archive Roll M7735. Note that he is not shown in the County Directories which start about 1866. There is a listing showing what appears to be a John Senior and a John Junior - need to confirm this? In a Deed (Bargain and Sale), #8062, in 1856, he sells 50 acres of the West Half of the West Half of the East Half of Lot B, Concession 7 to William Smith. TheDeed is registered in 1863 just prior to him getting/giving? a mortgage from a William Wilson. On this deed his wife is shown as "Jane" and both he and Jane make their mark as it appears they could not write. This transaction is witnessed by a "John Smith" who appears to be listed as a "Junior". Is this his son????? The Ontario Land Records (LDS Film) shows the transaction with the Canada Land Company. This company purchased the land from the Crown in 1841. The purchase shows residence of Cumberland; Lot E1/2 B; Date ID is 5/7; Issue Date is (5) 1846/12/11 (yr/mo/dy); and 1851/07/15; Transaction Type = Sale; Smith John, Deed No. (none). Source for this is Archival RG Series CC B3 with Archival Reference Volume 026, Page 074. He married Jane (?).

John Smith WHERE DOES HE FIT IN????
I have listed him as the brother of Andrew and William because the 1901 Census shows him as emigrating in 1842 which is the same year as Andrew. THIS NEEDS TO BE CONFIRMED????? CONC. 1 , LOT 24 The first record I have of this John Smith (b. 1820) and living on Conc. 1, Lot 24 is from the Land Registry Office. The Deed #7354 shows a purchase of land in 1850 ? from John Symes. This deed was registered in 1861 and appears to involve S 1/2 of 100 acres. The next reference is found in Deed #1831 when he sells part of the S 1/2 of 1/4 of an acre to Alex Daley in 1883. I need to get a copy of both these deeds but they can't find the film!!!!!! The next reference ot John Smith and this piece of land is the 1861 Agricultural Survey which shows him working 100 acres.
