According to the diary of the Minister of the Workhouse, he visited a John Wallace the night of 26 August 1884 - the night before John died! That is the only reference as all of the other records for the Workhouse have been destroyed.

*** The Anfield Record of burial has a mistake - it is 44 years old not 34. He was born in 1840 at Barony, Lanark, Scotland.2 He was the son of Andrew Wallace and Margaret Wilkie. John Bruce Wallace married Agnes Catherine Shearer, daughter of George Shearer and Agnes H Hamilton, on 22 February 1867 at North Halls Parish of Avondale in the County of Lanark.3,4 John Bruce Wallace died on 27 August 1884 at West Derby, Lancashire, England.5,6 He was buried on 31 August 1884 at Anfield Cemetery, Liverpool, England.7

     Margaret Wallace VERY IMPORTANT - as of 4 Nov 2002, Annie Garven research indicates that this "MAY" be the correct Margaret. The birth information is correct but the Death Cert. lists her mother as "Campbell" rather than "Donald". Annie feels that this is a mistake. She notes that there is no trace of a birth of a Margaret to Andrew Wallace and Margaret Campbell in Eastwood in the period 1801-03. Also there is no trace of a marriage of these parents.

This speculation needs to be confirmed by Annie - possibly through OPR marriage record of Margaret to Archibald or the birth/death records of the children.
